Aslan Gotov

Aslan Gotov was born in the North Caucasus mountain village Jaco, of Karachay-Cherkessia, the son of Russia’s beloved musician Khusyn Gotov.

After graduating from music school he entered the Cherkessk School of the Arts and joined the piano class of Julia S. Nanniy. Continuing his musical education, he attended the pop-jazz department College of Arts in Rostov-on-Don, and then the Rostov State Conservatory named after Sergei Rakhmaninov, and finally, with the Honored Artist of Russia, Professor Kim Nazaretov where he performed Rakhmaninov on jazz piano to rave reviews.

As a student, Aslan led the training ensemble and they performed in many competitions and festivals around the country. In 1990 his ensemble won the jazz festival in Donetsk. In 1990 they won the jazz festival in Rostov-on-Don, and in 1992 – they won the international festival “Jazz Student” in Tallinn. These award willing performances were an innovative synthesis of jazz-rock and fusion, with elements of national Circassian colors.

At the end of the conservatory in 1993, Aslan received the recommendation for admission to graduate school, and joined the department of pop-jazz music in the Rostov State Conservatory, majoring in jazz composition and orchestration in the class of People’s Artist of the USSR under professor, composer and conductor Murad Magomedovich Kazhlaev.

In February 1996, he formed the group “Oshten”, under the auspices of the Adighe State Philharmonic. Over the years of work in ensemble, Aslan created a large number of treatments of Circassian old folk songs and songs of local composers. The Oshten Ensemble has performed at many jazz festivals held in the North Caucasus, and continues to win awards and acclaim. In 2002, Aslan and his family moved to Moscow where he became a deputy director and arranger for Yu. Silantiev Academic Grand Concert Orchestra. 2006-2009, he is Senior Editor of variety programs FSUE «Company Melody», while continuing to engage in creative. Since 2010 he has been living and working in Toronto, Canada.
